Trust and a Four-Wheeler

Oh summers in Fairbanks, how I love thee!  Berry picking (I could go on for days about how much I love this), lots of sunshine, bike riding, running outside, and camping trips with the hubby. This past weekend we went out camping off of Chena Hot Springs Road, somewhere around mile 32.  It was a simple camping trip, but we just had a busy week and needed some alone time together out in nature.  We had spent Friday evening at the home of another soldier Marshall works with, picking raspberries from their yard and sharing some yummy food.  The raspberries were amazing, and some of them were turned into jam the next day! Our cupboard is now stocked with fireweed jelly, raspberry jam, and blueberry jam--all handpicked by us in Alaska.  It is awesome.

Anyways, on Saturday morning we slept in and then Marshall and I rode his 4-wheeler for about an hour and a half.  His ATV isn't a super fancy one, nor did he pay lots of money for it. Actually, he got it for free.  So over the past 5 months, he has slowly fixed it up. But there is only one seat, so it is a tight squeeze for both of us to ride together.  Luckily, we are both small :).  When I ride with him, I have to wrap my arms around his waist and shift my body weight with his when we go over bumps.  It is a lot more work for him as well, because as the driver, he has to balance the ATV for two people, instead of just one.  So it is a lot more work with two.  But the experience is so fun!  I love going places with him in it, and of course, I love to wrap my arms around him.

After we finished the ride, I reflected on the experience, and realized how much riding behind him, with my arms around his side, increases the bond between us.  I have to trust in his driving abilities and navigation skills. I have to sit close to him, or else the balance will be off, resulting in a greater chance of us tipping over.

It would be wonderful to have a two-seater ATV someday.  I never thought I would say that.  But until then, I will enjoy the time I get to spend right next to my husband, arms around his side, traversing through beautiful mountain trails on his one-seated four wheeler :-).

  1. I just love this so much! I know that, at least for me, being close makes a WORLD of difference. This time together just as husband and wife is so absolutely wonderful. :) I'm glad you two have had so many opportunities to go out and do things so that you're not only enjoying your time together, but making wonderful memories and having once in a lifetime experiences as well. So awesome!

    1. Thank you so much for always commenting!! It means a lot to me, haha. what you said is so true. as much as I want to have kids now, Iknow how important it is to leave that in the Lord's hand and enjoy my time with my husband, alone :).

  2. I know exactly what you mean about that! I'm just grateful for past experiences in my life that remind me that the Lord really does understand and know what is best. :) And you're welcome! I love reading your blog, staying caught up with your life so far away in Alaska! :)

Hoping for a Rainbow

I'm really not sure if I ever thought this day would come. The day that I made it past 13 weeks pregnant without losing the baby. #miracle.  I know I am not out of the woods yet, and honestly, when are we really? I am just trying to live every day with gratitude for the life inside of me, living with hope for the future.  Part of me wanted to wait until next week, when I was past 14 weeks and officially in the 2nd trimester, but I couldn't wait any longer. I've been getting a little thick in the middle, which is getting more difficult to hide, and I feel like I haven't been able to be completely honest with friends when they would ask, "how are you doing?" All I wanted to talk about was how nauseous I was or how nervous I felt. So now, the news is out, whether or not you already suspected something was up.  Seriously though, the 1st trimester is not for the faint of heart! There were many instances when I thought I would lose the baby, but dee...

The Love of a Cousin

Swimming Babes-2006 " What do I do when I get pregnant again?"   I asked. My sweet cousin was on the other end of the phone call when I sought out her wisdom and support.  3 years younger than me, she is in her 3rd pregnancy and ready to deliver her first baby in less than 2 months. She was the first person I wanted to talk to when I miscarried the first time, just 2 months after her ectopic pregnancy back in the spring of 2015. For some reason, I just had this connection to her, like maybe because she was born in the same generation as me and going through similar circumstances, that she would understand. Now, 13 months after my first miscarriage, I find myself going through mental exercises every day to prepare myself to trust my body for my 4th and hopefully successful pregnancy; part of that exercise today was to call my cousin up and have a nice chat about our lives and try to get some insights. We were both strong-headed children growing up--often getting ups...

The Day I was a Fisherman!

Oh my, that is a lot of fish!                                                   Valdez, Alaska, how you amaze me. First of all, you are absolutely gorgeous.  Take a look: Here is the fish hatchery in Valdez. There are often a lot of bears here, though we didn't see any this trip. Lots of salmon! There are SO many waterfalls along the highway right outside of Valdez. Here is one of the many: My lovely husband, conquering Horsetail Falls! Thompson Pass in the Chugach Mountain Range. It is the snowiest place in Alaska in the winter ( according to this site ).   So I really love scenery pictures more when there are people in them. Here is my attempt. The sun was so bright in my eyes and I was feeling pretty sick (it honestly hurt to smile), but I made it through nonetheless!  And this is just us being cute, with Valdez in ...
